Paul Sandro :
It's with great sadness that I share the news that Dick Galaty died June 27th in Denver, Colorado, where he lived with his wife Debby. He was such a good childhood friend. We lived on the same block of S. Kenilworth, did all the rough and tumble things you can imagine kids doing without getting into too much trouble. We went to Emerson grade school and OPRF High School. Dick's Emerson schoolmates will remember him as such a good guy: a fun loving, sweet, serious, authentic guy. We lost contact for a while after college years but reconnected later through the internet. Even though he lived in Colorado, and I in Ohio, we'd get together in northern Wisconsin where we each had summer property. We also had a memorable time in 2024 at an Emerson grade school reunion. I'll post some pictures later, but please let's share some memories on this site.

OPRF was a big high school - so very often I have no recollection of many of our classmates who make it to the Memory pages. Dick Galaty is not one of those. I have warm memories of Dick - some from the comradery on the football team - where neither of us were super stars - but also socially - when we used to hang out. Condolences to DIck's family.

I really liked Dick in 6th grade, as many of the girls did. I walked past his house on Kenilworth on my way to school, pausing at Madison Street, where Phil the policeman was our crossing guard. We were in class plays together, religious education after school at a local church, and in Miss Whitehead's homeroom. Dick was kind and fun to be around. We reconnected at our Emerson School reunions, often on the Friday before the high school reunions, but also at other dates. My friend Marjie (Rackow/Reichart) spearheaded many of these events, and I collaborated with her to gather as many Emersonites from the class of 1958 as possible - so great to have our childhood friends together. I'm really sad to learn that Dick has died - he was truly one of the best in our class. My sympathies to his family.

In our Emerson class, I think that everyone who knew Dick loved him! He was kind, fun, athletic (always the first one picked for the kickball team), a good student and handsome. During our grade school years, Dick and our fellow classmates attended parties and dances, performed in plays, participated in sports and always had good times together.
In later years our Emerson class celebrated various reunions and it was always a treat to see Dick at these events. I send my deepest sympathy to his family as they deal with such a great loss.
