I grew up with Richard--I have known him for maybe 71 years--he was a great kid, great friend, and was always a great man--so very sorry to hear of his passing--he will be missed--George

Dick was on the Swim team.  He was a good swimmer and great team member.  I vividly remember the last time I saw him. It was the summer after we were graduated in 1962. He called me on the phone and asked me to come over to his home.  When I did he answered the door dressed in a U.S. Marine dress blue uniform.  He said he had joined the Marines because his uncle told him it would teach him how to succeed in life.  I was disappointed because I wanted him to go to the U of I with me.

So sorry to hear that what a great guy.  Always fun in homeroom and he had a great life we often followed on facebook.

What sad news today!  It was always fun to see him.  He mentioned at our last reunion that he was fighting cancer, but I thought he would keep it at bay.  I'm very very sorry to see this.  Best to his family.  Diane Gwinn Schaaf

I am very sad!!

He was so concerned about me, when I made the GRAND ENTRANCE at the last reunion.  Found out we had a lot in common with the cancer struggle!  I know that he fought very hard!  We emailed each other many times since the last reunion.  He also made the effort to come see me during Christmas of 2018!  We had a great time talking about old times, etc.

I have been in remission for about 3 years now.  Hope to keep it that way .

Dick, I wish that you were still with us, but I know your battle was long and hard - finally you are free!

Sending my love to your family.

I know that you have many wonderful memories to cherish.!

I am saddened to hear that Dick Peters has died. I saw him at the last reunion and we caught up on each other's news. He always seemed so up-beat. My sincerest condolences to his wife and family.

Goodbye old neighbor and friend. We had many fun times together in the best years of our youth. You lived life to the fullest and fought your illness valiantly. I am so glad we were able to spend a little time together at the reunions and in San Diego. My heart goes out to Carol and family. See you on the other side.

Dick and I were best of friends for 60 years. We met in high school and through the years shared many laughs together which kept us grounded. In the early years I spent time with Dick and his wonderful family. When Dick married Carol (the love of his life) we partied like pros. Dick and Carol later moved to Texas and as we developed careers and raised families, we remained very close.  Over six and a half years ago I got the frightening news that no one wants to hear. Dick told me he had cancer.

I loved Dick like a brother, and he felt the same about me. The news slowed the laughs for a while with a few tears in between. During the next six and a half years Dick rallied and fought like the champ he was. I spent time on the phone with Dick and made regular visits to be there with him. We would still fish and vacation together when he was up to it. In the end he passed away with his family by his side and on that day, I lost my best friend.
